Progeny Software
Progeny Software, LLC distributes Progeny, a genetic data management software with a customizable relational database, to the cancer and genetic research industry. Progeny comes in 3 versions:
- Progeny Clinical - pedigree and clinical data management
- Progeny Lab - SNP, Genotyping Software
- Progeny LIMS - Complete LIMS software - laboratory information management system
Any combination of these products can be combined into a single application sharing the same database. Progeny is being used today by leading geneticists, genetic counselors, medical researchers, physicians, epidemiologists, transgenic facilities and other professionals in over 65 countries.
Progeny was designed with the ability to network users and to facilitate collaboration among colleagues from different institutions, allowing users to share results of the data from their families. This industry is a rapidly growing worldwide market fueled by the continuing discoveries of genetic research. As more genes are discovered having a direct link to certain diseases, the need to research the family history of cancer patients becomes more of a necessity. It is our belief that eventually general practicing family physicians will have a need to track the specific gene makeup of the families they manage in their care practice.
Several initiatives are currently being formulated among the leading institutions around the world. The need for collaboration among different institutions is important in order to determine the effect of cancers on a much larger set of the population. Progeny is ideally suited to help facilitate this collaborative effort. We signed a deal with KCONFAB of Australia on the implementation of a nationwide breast cancer network. KCONFAB is a government sponsored initiative to fund the effort to network the cancer centers throughout Australia. This same type of initiative is being discussed in other countries such as Brazil, Japan, and the United States.
